Process and structural simulation for the development of a pressure vessel through filament winding technology

Abstract. Recently, Università Politecnica delle Marche and COMEC Innovative srl are involved in the research project “Smart Tow Winding” funded by MIUR (Ministry of Education, University Research), concerning development an innovative process for realization a pressure vessel through Filament Winding (FW) technology. In this context, design procedure type IV composite is proposed. To component, dedicated simulation software CADWIND was used to virtually generate definition desired geometry, prepreg, number layers bandwidth. The generated file imported FEM Siemens NX with aim evaluating structural resistance under internal 70 MPa. Different external configurations mandrels stratification were tested order optimize geometry weight ratio. A high performance low configuration finally identified.
